Details

New and improved “Low Rider” delivers a lower center of gravity for superior feel and comfort.

Note: Will not ship until January 2023

The Ben Franklin 2 “Low Rider” delivers a lower center of gravity and is the most durable composite helmet you can buy because the color molded throughout "FYR-Glass" Shell (including ridges) resists chipping, cracking and peeling far better than even Kevlar reinforced shells.

The Low Rider helmets offer a newly designed suspension and headband cover system that allows both the Ben 2 to ride lower on your head which lowers the center of gravity therefore improving balance while it also reduces strain on the head, neck and shoulders. The long term result is that the Ben 2 is the most cost effective, lightweight composite traditional helmet. It offers comfortable fit, balanced feel, low head ride and light weight of "old" traditional helmets, but with NFPA required performance levels.

You simply can't beat Ben 2's fit, comfort, performance…or price.

  • New and improved “Low Rider” delivers a lower center of gravity
  • 6 point suspension system provides a full 1.5” of adjustment for quick and easy custom fit
  • Stronger, lighter, and a great value with field proven proprietary shell material that provides superior heat protection with 39% more resistance to impact penetration than conventional fiberglass material
  • Internally protected suspension straps cannot be affected by external heat or flame
  • Gold plated eagle front holder won't bend and flop like hollow brass ones
  • Includes black Nomex earlaps and liner

Advantages:

  • Stronger, Lighter, and Less Expensive
  • Field Proven "FYR-Glass" Shell
  • Built-In Goggle Retention System
  • Best SCBA Interface with no need to adjust suspension
  • Better Performance and Engineered for Excellence

Features:

  • Lower Ride: Improved 6 point suspension and wider interior, coupled with the lowest center-of-gravity on the market, provides superior ride and fit.
  • More Comfortable: Specially made headliner cradles your head in comfort while it cushions overhead straps away from your hair and head.
  • Useable Hang-up Loops: Actually large enough to fit over a peg.
  • Best Range of Available Sizes: No need for small, medium or large headband sizes. With our improved headband/ratchet it will fit the largest range of hat sizes of any NFPA helmet on the market- from under 6 to over size 9.
  • Most Adjustable Headband: Four position depth adjustments, two at the front and two at the rear, makes it possible to fit almost any head with just a few quick and easy adjustments. No tools needed.
  • Protected Suspension Straps: Internally protected straps cannot be affected by external heat or flame.
  • Gold Plated Eagle: Looks fantastic! Won't bend and flop over like hollow brass holders do.

    I've wore alot better

Posted by Verified Buyer on Mar 18th 2013

I'm a career fireman for 10 years, and have been a volunteer for 12 years. Between the 2 departments run about 5,000 calls a year. I average about going in around 20-30 structure fires a year. This helmet by far is the worse I've ever worn. It heavy, and sits high on your head. I've worn Bullard, Paul Conway, & Phenix also, and I would choose either one of them in a second on Morning Pride.

    Nice Helmet

Posted by Verified Buyer on Jan 29th 2013

I run with a Volunteer rescue-fire crew, we run 270+ calls a year I wear this helmet on all interior runs, All around it is a great helmet, I have a Cairns 1044 that I also wear but the Ben 2 is alot lighter, CON: the pin tabs that hold the head gear in place break all the time. But I would buy another one, Can't beat the price either.

    Seems to break a lot

Posted by Verified Buyer on Nov 11th 2012

I own and have been issued several Ben II helmets and I love them all with the exception of these new models. The plastic clips that hold the suspension together must have been made of more brittle material, because they break if you sneeze at them. The older Ben's were pretty much indestructable, it really is a shame that these do not hold up like that.

    I've had better (lighter)

Posted by Verified Buyer on Oct 26th 2012

I got this helmet when I joined my Career Department, as it is the ""standard issue"". They ordered them because they seem to fit even the largest head. Though because they are so large, they are heavy, bulky, and a bit awkward, especially if you are a small firefighter. I had mine for about 6 months, then I bought a used 880 Chicago helmet (because it was lighter and more low profile). I've been in the fire service for 10 years, this was the least comfortable helmet for me.

    Not a Leather

Posted by Verified Buyer on Oct 24th 2012

This helmet is being marketed as the end all, be all fire helmet. It isn't. It sits too high on your head (there's about 1.5 inches of clearance between the suspension and the shell). The new 4 point chin strap is a joke, I'm not a small guy and the ""V"" comes well past my jaw line making it difficult to adjust properly.
